What to do and see around Hua Hin

Hua Hin Is Thailand's first beach resort. Situated 200 km from Bangkok on the west coast of the Gulf of Thailand. Hua Hin became popular with the Bangkok elite and the Royal Family following the completion of the southern railway in the 1920's, travel became easier and a demand for luxury accommodation grew. The first 5 star hotel was the Railway Hotel now called the Sofitel Central, still one of Hua Hin's finest hotels. During the last 10 years Hua Hin has undergone a rapid expansion with many new golf courses, spa resorts, a brand new shopping complex (The Market Village) and improved roads, hospitals and basic infrastructure. The charm of Hua Hin is that it still retains its fishing village serenity which is now side by side with the new built luxury resorts and shopping centers.

Here come a couple of popular things to do and see around Hua Hin

 1. Hua Hin Railway Station

It's worth seeing, even if you don't travel by train. Hua Hin's popularity began to increase in the 1920's as the railway line from Bangkok was constructed and King Rama VI built Klai Kangwon Palace as a summer retreat. Hua Hin's station is one of the oldest in Thailand and its main feature is The Royal Waiting Room that used to welcome King and his court when they were visiting the town.
Originally, it was situated at Sanamchan Palace in Nakom Pathom and was known as Plub Pla Sanamchan. Eventually, the room was transported to Hua Hin. It is designed in the same style as Maruekkhathayawan Palace and is an attraction not to be missed if you are staying in Hua Hin. The train station is located at the top (west end) of Damnoern Kasem Road.

 2. Hua Hin Beach

Hua Hin beach is a beautiful, well kept, white sand beach. It’s got a myriad of small kiosks providing deck chairs for those people not staying in a beach front hotel. There are a range of activities from kite surfing when it’s windy to jet skiing when it’s calm. The sea is a beautiful temperature, and even in peak season the beach isn't over crowded. At the north of the beach by the Sofitel/Hilton there are numerous restaurants/stands right on the beach serving drinks and food with sunshades and deck chairs.

Only 2 minutes walk away (by the pool entrance to the Sofitel) the beach proper begins, miles of deserted beach, cleaned daily by the large hotels, warm clear waters to swim in and plenty of hotels and bars/restaurants to wander into for a drink or a meal. The sea is great to swim in, warm and shallow although as you go out there is a fair amount of swell.

 3. Khao Takiab Bay

Khao Takiab Bay just past the Golden Buddha and Khao Takiab Mountain. This is a wide and long stretch of beach with firm sand and clear clean water; waves are just ripples so swimming is fine. You can do water sports, also boat trips to islands off the Hua Hin coast and also fishing boat trips to Koh Singto Island.  Along this Hua Hin beach you will find beach loungers and beach chairs, umbrellas, beach massage, beach food and drinks, cycling around are popular and bicycles can be rented. Just take the green pick-up bus from Hua hin Market to Khao Takiab and then follow the road to the right near the many temples and you will be in Khao Takiab Bay area.

 4. Hua Hin Night Bazaar

The main attraction of the Hua Hin Night Bazaar has to be the fresh seafood cooked expertly at the numerous restaurants lining the market - as you walk along each restaurant has a stall covered in ice with prawns, crabs, fish, lobster, steaks etc laid out. You choose from the display and they cook it there and then. Souvenirs are mainly of the T-shirt, sarongs, though they also sell unusual costume, jewellery and novelties such as tuk-tuks made out of drink cans.

5. Khao Takiab (Chopsticks Hill)

A lot of monkeys wondering around street shops (be careful with handbags). Bananas or peanuts can be purchased at very cheap price. Good view from the temple looking out the sea and the best view of Hua Hin. A nice seafood restaurant is on the hill overlooking Hua Hin bay. Moderate for tourist spot, but good and cheap if you want your kids to see monkeys very closely

 6. The Huay Mongkol temple

The Huay Mongkol temple is a nice place to see if you’re staying near Hua Hin. The Luang Phor Thuad image sits on a pedestal with four other smaller images where the faithful pastes four gold leaf in honour of luang phor thuad.

7. Seafood dinner

An evening seafood dinner at one of the many beach side restaurants south of the fishing port is worth the money. Our favorite restaurant is the Chaolay Restaurant, built on a stilts over the water overlooking the fishing port where trawlers are unloading fresh seafood. This is Thai style seafood at is best to reasonable prices.
